About My Blog

Hello my name is Gavin.
I want to share a little of who I am and what I am attempting to do by writing this Blog.

I have been writing stuff all my life. Yes and in saying that, I can actually say that I have been published.

Three years ago while living and traveling in Guatemala and later Belize, I would pass emails back to friends and others. The feedback I received convinced me that I should do something with all of those words I had written. Yes and I had written them in longhand.

"Write a Blog someone had told me."

That sent a shiver of instant negativism to my thoughts. Write a Blog and give all of what I have written away? "No way," I remember muttering!

But then I thought, why not.

Writing a Blog would be a great way to express my feelings and maybe get some projects I have been thinking about broadcasted out to the world. Maybe it was that audience I needed.

So I wrote a Blog.

The  blog was written with the purpose to disseminate information. That has not changed.

My subject interests a small community. Yes but a small community that has grown into something truly beautiful. My blog was and is focused to attract a certain kind of person. My blog is there to reach out to people that share a similar vision and passion as mine. My Blog says it all... help without conditions, love without conditions. Words easily spoken, stated.. but something that did not just happen to me overnight. It took time for me to accept that. Before I was always looking for the "what's in it for me" angle.

It actually started to happened with a meeting I had with a young woman, a single mother. I was going to help her monetarily without asking anything in return for myself. That was something different for me. But I actually found out that I could do that. I could do that without expecting anything in return from her. I am still doing that. But for me it meant looking at life, not just mine ad my needs in a different way. That process changed me. The rewards I feel are incredible. I was and still am elated.

To love without conditions brings such a feeling of nirvana to my soul. I feel good inside. I want to feel more of this. Each act of kindness, each act of giving feeds me. I cannot stop this, do not want to stop this...

So now I am in the process of setting into place a non-government organization (NGO) that will create humanitarian projects to build sustainable housing and schools. Projects to educate and allow people to become independent. Projects to allow people dignity and hope. Projects to supply clean drinking water and solar power. Projects to supply home (black water) waste systems.

We are going to build a village

People think I am crazy when I tell them this.

"Dream Big"  is my answer.

The actual costs of such projects are little. The gain we will share is that families will have homes, schools, and a chance to have a better life. Homes that are safe.

Guatemala with its many fault lines shakes a bit. We will not build houses like they presently do. Look at Haiti as that example. It is though possible using the same building materials but using different approaches to construction to build safer homes.

We will build simple but well designed homes that will withstand seismic activity. The cost is still minimal compared to developed countries. A simple structurally designed home can be built for less than a used car.

Solar power can be and is being used in many remote villages in Guatemala now. Clean drinking water can be collected, treated and supplied. The basic human rights are the right to clean water, food, shelter and sanitation. The village will supply this.

My blog is written to attract people like you.

People that care enough to love with conditions. To help support or explore with us possibilities for fund raising and construction. To help those less fortunate than we are.

By being in the formal stages of setting up an NGO, this is already happening.

Noble thoughts perhaps, but again not written for any pat on the back, but rather to allow and to assist those in need. It is all a work in progress.

Help us to help the people

Help us to build a village

You can email me directly to learn more of these projects and our present courses of action. This is my dream. This is my passion. This is my vision. Please make it part of yours.

Thanks
